Introduction

What is a Japanese Knot Bag?
Japanese knot bags are usually on the smaller size and bucket shaped. While most bags you see have symmetrical handles, a Japanese knot bag has asymmetrical handles. One side has a long handle and one side has a much shorter handle. You simply pass the longer handle through the shorter one to close and carry it. Most free patterns for Japanese knot bags are made with one piece of fabric, however, there is an exception here that creates 2 pieces of fabric and seams them to make a duo-colored bag.
A lot of makers and designers like to add a fabric lining to their bags with a sewing machine. This is a great way to keep your bag from stretching and have the beautiful stitchwork of crochet on the outer fabric. This can also cover up raw edges of crochet work if you don’t like how they look.
