19 Original and Free Prayer Shawls Knitting Patterns

Today I’m sharing a special type of project: prayer shawls knitting patterns.

A prayer shawl, also known as a comfort shawl, is a special gift and a beautiful way to show someone you care about them. These types of projects are typically made with intention when someone is going through hard times or is in need of comfort.

Traditionally you’ll pray for the recipient while you’re knitting, pouring love into every stitch. Some will also bless the finished design after completion.

If you don’t pray, you can still make a beautiful shawl with intention. Instead of praying, you’ll think positive thoughts and affirmations while you’re knitting.

While you can create any type of handmade item and consider it a prayer or comfort item, knit (or crochet) shawls are one of the most popular types of patterns to make.

First we’ll start with some classic triangle shawls, then rectangular shaped shawls and even a square one, then some crescent shapes shawls/shawlettes. With a variety of prayer shawl knitting patterns, there’s something here for every skill level.
